Our Research Areas
There are about 35 million people living with HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) worldwide. HIV is a virus that, if left untreated, gradually weakens the immune system of an infected person making them more at risk of other infections which may put their life at risk. We carry out research on how best to prevent and treat HIV, both in the South Africa and globally
Tuberculosis (TB) is primarily a lung infection caused by the bacterium mycobacterium tuberculosis, which can penetrate lung tissue causing inflammation and the development of tubercles. We carry out research on how best to prevent and treat TB, both in South Africa and globally.
